Screamin' Jay Hawkins poster from 1975, caught mid-song at the R&B Festival in Frankfurt-Höchst by photographer and fan Klaus Hiltscher. It's moody black and white, with Hawkins in polka-dot satin and frilled cuffs, eyes down and leaning right into the mic.
Hawkins was the man behind "I Put a Spell on You", and he turned R&B into pure theatre: capes, skulls and coffin entrances long before anyone had a name for shock rock. He was loud, funny and gloriously over the top, and a long line of later performers owe him a debt.
This reproduction comes as a poster or a framed print, with the year and his name set in clean type along the bottom. It looks right at home in a living room, a record room or a hallway gallery wall, and makes a cool gift for blues and R&B collectors, vinyl diggers and anyone who likes their wall art with a bit of swagger.
